You don’t have to drive a long ways to make some interesting finds!

All of the older objects below as well as the jewelry were found only a short drive from our front door. Check back often, as we will be adding to this page.

These three items were all found in Northwest Oklahoma or in the eastern Texas Panhandle in areas not open to settlement until the late 1800’s.

The 1836 half dime (Upper Left) and the love token, made from a dime that was last minted in 1859, (Upper Right) were found at a military campsite.

The supposedly rare pewter Texas martingale was found on a cattle trail. I have been on hunts where two other martingales of this type were found. One was on another cattle trail and the other was found at a homestead occupied by some small time outlaws in Northwest Oklahoma.

This dragon-pattern side plate, which dates from the 1700’s, is from a musket of European origin that saw general use in the Colonial period. This one probably came off an Indian trade musket. It was found in the eastern Texas Panhandle on a campsite that was used from prehistoric times until the early 1900’s.

This is just a small portion of jewelry we have found nearby using metal detectors!

These two items were found in the same area as the side plate. The button with the horse on it has a cut or square nail attached to the back of it. The button on right has an old style loop on back. They could possibly be trade items. There have been several of the horse buttons found at the same location, but have not seen them anywhere else.
